The Finals of the 2nd CFA
Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine, local level of Global students
competition in investment research initiated by CFA Institute at the global
level, was held by CFA Ukraine Society in Kyiv on January 24, 2012 at the Hall
of Institute of Postgraduate Education.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge
is a global competition which tests the analytic, valuation, report writing,
and presentation skills of university students. Last year nearly 2,500 students from over 546 universities in 45 countries participated and learned
best practices in equity research from leading industry experts.
The main goal of the Challenge is the Research Report with buy, sell or hold recommendation on publicly traded
company. This year Milkiland N.V.
was the subject company of the students’ research report and it’s Investor
Relations Officer – Sergey Trifonov
kindly agreed to provide future investment analysts with company presentation
and answer their questions.
The local competition in Ukraine has started on October 7, 2011 with 28 university
teams that wished to compete at the challenge and culminated by the competition
of 7 teams advance to present their research reports at the Finals. The
finalist teams were chosen based on the results of their written research reports
that were graded by the investment professionals.
The finalists and guests of the Challenge were welcomed by Tatiana
Nichosova, Chair of CFA Institute
Research Challenge in Ukraine, who emphasized on the educational, ethical
and professional orientation components of the Challenge. Followed speech by Rostislav
Shmanenko, Vice-president, Membership
at CFA Ukraine was dedicated to the role of CFA designation and membership
in CFA Institute Member Society in the career of investment professionals.
The most long-expected speaker of the Finals after the Kick-Off meeting in
October, 2011 was Yuriy Vitrenko, General
Director of AYA Capital, who mentioned key steps required for building the
successful career. In the Yuriy Vitrenko’s judgment the most important of them
are professional ethics and zeal.
Inspired by welcoming speeches each team had only 10 min to present the
results of their research report and another 10 min to defend their opinion
before the expert panel of judges, that was represented by experienced
investment professionals:
- Andriy Bespyatov, CFA, PhD, Managing Director, Research at Dragon Capital and Independent Director at CFA Ukraine;
- Yuriy Vitrenko, General Director of AYA Capital;
- Volodymyr Dinul, Head of Research at Eavex Capital;
- Alexander Paraschiy, Head of Research at Concord Capital;
- Sergey Trifonov, Investor Relations Officer, Milkiland N.V.;
- Anna Sologub, Manager, Transactions and Restructuring, KPMG Ukraine.
Based on the results obtained by the participating teams during their
preparation to the Finals, they were congratulated by the sponsors and partners
of the Challenge in different nominations:
Kyiv School of Economics was awarded in nominations:
- “The best questions to Company Management” by Milkiland N.V.
- “The best Team Work” by Dragon Capital.
Chernihiv State Technological University was awarded in the nomination:
- “The best questions to Company Management” by Milkiland N.V.
Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Het’man was awarded in nominations:
- “The best Presentation” by KPMG Ukraine;
- “The best Team Work” by Dragon Capital.
Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was awarded in nominations:
- “The best Written Report” by Ernst&Young;
- “The best Team Work” by Dragon Capital.
According to the combined scores (see here) received by the teams for their written report and during their presentations at the Finals the team of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv was defined as the winner of the 2nd CFA Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine and advance to compete at the EMEA Regional Final on March 14-16, 2012 in London.
The Winning team was awarded memorable crystals from CFA Ukraine by Sergey Glazunov, President of CFA Ukraine Society, who congratulated all finalists
with the completion of the Challenge and invited all Universities to take part
in the next season of CFA Institute Research Challenge in Ukraine.
